THE OTTO GRILL

DESSERT

DIRECT

The nostalgic smell of childhood: roasted apples wafting out of the O.F.B. mixed with the wonderful holiday aromas of marzipan, cinnamon and roasted almonds. Otto's grilled roasted apple with its indulgent filling is the only treat you'll need to warm your tummy and your heart this winter.

LET’S GO

Grilled Holiday Apple Treat

PREPARATION

  1. For Otto’s grilled holiday apple approval, you better use a slightly sour apple variety like Elstar or Boskop. This complements the holiday spice flavors and combines well with creamy vanilla ice cream. Cut off the top of the apples like a lid and remove the cores generously: about 2 to 3 cm. Keep the bottom of the apple intact so that the filling won’t drip out.

  2. For the filling of the grilled holiday apple treat, roast the almond slivers in a frying pan without fat or oils. When they turn golden brown, remove them from the pan and let them cool in a small bowl. Mix the almonds with the cranberries, a pinch of cinnamon and the raw marzipan. For a special stroke of genius: cut the vanilla pod, scrape it out and mix the vanilla seeds with the baked apple filling. Additionally, a bit of rum or Cointreau are also outstanding to enhance the filling flavor.

GRILLING

  1. Heat the Otto Grill for 3 minutes at 900° C. Tip: use Otto’s pizza stone in the Otto Grill so the baked apple is also warmed from the bottom. Otherwise, place the apples on the grill grate on the lowest position – as far from the top heat source.

  2. Grill the apples at the lowest temperature and check on them frequently until they have a delicate golden brown on all sides. With the barbecue tongs, you can test whether the apples are already soft. If not, just let it “bake” with the burners turned off for a few minutes. With the pizza stone, baking from the bottom and grilling from the top in the Otto Grill is ideal for recipes like this grilled holiday apple treat or other desserts.

SERVING

  1. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream a la mode on the side or top it over the filling, add a cinnamon stick or more cinnamon and dig in.
